About the Book
The philosophies and mindset expressed in the book are actually tools that everyone - anyone - can use every day to positively approach and overcome the challenges of life, better known as the negative "boxes" that all of us face in our journey towards being the best we can be. Whether you're a student, a teacher, an accountant, a dishwasher, a musician, a factory worker or a lawyer, you will identify with CYB values and insights and be inspired to build a positive and creative attitude in your life.
"Crushing Your Box"® encourages you to think outside and around and above the traditional "boxes" that say "you have to do it this way" or that tell us "you can't do that" or that drag us into thinking that
"nothing ever seems to work out for me." By focusing on one CYB philosophy, or three philosophies, or any combination thereof, in any order you choose, you will be taking the necessary steps towards

"Read it from cover to cover. A must read for all. Very uplifting."
-Mary Reynolds, Homemaker
"Not your standard 'self-help' book, 'Crushing Your Box' is uplifting and offers a fresh perspective. Reading it feels like you are talking to your new best friend. The POV is strong. The voice is authentic. And the content resonates. Highly recommend."
-Andrea Kamenca, Director of Implementation, Avizia Medical, Phoenix, AZ
"In 'Crushing Your Box,' Tray Goodman offers talk that's straightforward and humor with twists and turns that inspire and motivate. With refreshingly honest reflections about his own life, he provides specific examples of what has worked for him, and what has not. He encourages us all to take stock and then take steps -- including dreaming big and working hard -- to create our own unique brand of success."
-Lisa Honebrink, Strategic Communications Manager, Cambia Health Solutions & Cambia Health Foundation, Portland, Oregon
"I really enjoyed reading your book. It has a lot of great information. I will definitely be sharing it with students of the game I work with in my Evans Pressure Baseball business.
Funny how reading something that seems so obvious isn't as obvious as you thought and can change your life's direction. In a word ... Empowering."
-Mike Evans, former national college baseball coach of the year & founder of Evans Pressure Baseball
"I first purchased a copy of 'Crushing Your Box' because my friend Tray wrote it and I wanted to support his idea. Once I began to read the book, I found myself entrenched in his methods and approaches in order to tackle any task that impacts your goals. His aim high or go home approach to everyday life touches his audience. Failure+ Failure+ Failure = Success! There are limits to everything in life and there are more times that you will not be the next big thing. If you truly believe in yourself and put your full effort into your ideas then you already won your biggest fan, yourself.
I truly believe this is a great book for everyone in every type of environment, from being a writer, graphic artist, student or even a lawyer. All issues need an action and some just need that extra push in getting it accomplished. I can admit, 'Crushing Your Box' gives you that extra push to either be a box crusher, or have your dreams crushed. Do yourself a favor, get a copy of the book, read it, apply it and buy another copy for a friend, family member or co-worker in need of that extra push. Be a box crusher!"
-Stephen Vital, Sky Harbor Airport, City of Phoenix
"Just received this from a PR and Marketing friend. Finally started reading your book. It's fantastic! Really nice work - love how you are able to really come across with your own voice. Looking forward to finishing it and passing it on! Totally agree that books are supposed to be in hands, not on shelves.

'1ust read Tray Goodman's book, "Crushing Your Box." The idea of working daily on your attitude while applying The Golden Rule is unique, refreshing and much needed. It's one of those gems that you can open to any page on any day and get something useful. Thanks, Tray."
-Alex Grant, PianisUMusical Composer
"I loved your book! I borrowed a friend's copy. Even though I've certainly read other motivational books, I liked how it really felt like I was conversing with the author (you). Masterful technique. Good pacing and humor! I read it at a time when I needed a kick-start and your words/strategy have truly helped me in figuring out how to re-create life after some serious losses. Positive energy just radiates from the pages. You have a gift, so thank you comrade!"

'When a world-traveler with as distinguished a career as Arizona's own Tray Goodman decides to share his knowledge and experience, I tend to take note. However, being a bit of a self-help junkie, I frequently find many of today's books promising to improve my life are simply a rehashing of the classics, "How To Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie or "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. Not so with Goodman's "Crushing Your Box: A Modern Guide to Finding Your Creative Positive Energy Source." Instead, Goodman masterfully blends the advice of the classics with today's team and connectivity concepts, opening new dimensions toward success anyone can use to start making great things happen in their life. His humorous style, atypical formatting choices and keen repetition drive his points home, making his ideas easy to grasp. Crushing Your Box should be on every business professional's, artist's, and entrepreneur's shelf."

"A handwritten call to action to release the imprisoned virtues in all of us .. "
In an overly saturated market of atypical "self-help" books, most of which promising outrageously generic "miracle solutions" for the wide assortment of physical, emotional, social, economic, and personal problems that plague all of mankind, it's often rare to come across a book that decides to take a step back from the mainstream approach to problem solving and that asks the individual reader to genuinely look within themselves to find their own answers.
Author Tray Goodman, a self-proclaimed "Box Crusher", and an established veteran of over twenty years of experience within the TV, film, and media world, breaks into the world of self-help writing by giving us "Crushing Your Box". A book that, in my professional opinion, will provide the determined reader who takes the time to not only absorb the information but then act upon it and utilize it in their own life, with a profound level of improved self-confidence in their own abilities and a truer sense of self-actualization.
The wisdom of Goodman's personal philosophy lies in it's overall simplicity. Our individual problems, whether big or small, are essentially self-developed "mental boxes" that we construct around our creative consciousness. These boxes of ours affect much of who we are as people, and ultimately limit our creative potential, hold us back from accomplishing our dreams and aspirations, and deter our very ability to be positive people that desire to live happy goal-oriented lives. As opposed to merely
"thinking outside the box", Goodman urges his readers to recognize that this pattern of behavior is entirely unhealthy, and those that want success must learn to flat out CRUSH these boxes by changing their mindset from within.
Goodman's book is a very easy and entertaining read. Like the overall simplicity of the idea itself, Goodman's writings feel much like an informal letter from an old (or new) friend, reaching out to offer free sage advice ..... okay, maybe not exactly "free" advice! But the $18 price of the book is much better than the average month of routine therapy sessions!! And trust me, while reading this book you'll be the one who's taking notes throughout the process! Goodman breaks down his personal philosophy for "box crushing" our way to individual success across 10 specific chapters, each of which are filled with tactical solutions towards adopting a "box crushing" lifestyle, his personal life experiences within the entertainment world that shaped his philosophy, as well as Goodman's good old-fashioned sense of humor and wit along the way, (very reminiscent of a Daniel Pink book (A Whole New Mind, Drive, etc).
I think the best way I can describe Goodman's book is that it's a fresh attempt to provide "common knowledge" in an
"uncommon world". Much like author Natalie Goldberg's personal philosophies on creative writing (Writing Down The Bones, Thunder and Lightning, etc.), much of our creativity and personal growth as individuals lies not in the learning of new ways and techniques, but more so in the "un-learning" of the limited ways and techniques that hold us back from reaching our true potential. And, also much like the success of Goldberg's written works, it would not surprise me if Goodman's own work would also one day reach similar levels of national literary success, branching from the arms of inspired readers to perhaps being referenced and taught in the halls of colleges and universities as more and more readers discover how to "crush their own boxes", and put in the action towards being positive and successful.
And, as Goodman's philosophy for "Box Crushers" everywhere reveals, in the overall big picture of things individuals who learn how to help themselves become more creative and goal-driven in their own lives will inherently foster an atmosphere of similar prosperity in the lives of those around them. "A rising tide floats all boats", as Goodman quotes. If you're a downtrodden dreamer, a bewildered college student, or merely someone who likes to go out and crush boxes for a living, stay positive and be sure to read "Crushing Your Box™ "!
